Former Eternal Member Reveals Weight Concerns in BBC Girlband Documentary

Must read

Kéllé Bryan, a former member of the popular girl group Eternal, has revealed that concerns were raised about her weight during the band’s peak. In a new BBC documentary featuring various girlband stars, including Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah, Perrie Edwards, Kerry Katona, Natasha Hamilton, and Melanie Blatt, the singers share insights into their time in the music industry when girl groups dominated the charts.

While enjoying success in the spotlight, Kéllé disclosed that there were discussions about her weight behind the scenes. She mentioned that stylists often commented on her weight and the band’s weight, especially during an era where being size zero was fashionable. She reflected on being sent to a location where their diet was controlled, describing it as a surreal experience in hindsight.

Having started her music career at just 15, alongside her friend Louise (Nurding) Redknapp, Kéllé reminisced about the excitement of signing her first record deal. However, after Louise departed from Eternal three years later to pursue a solo career, Kéllé recognized the significant impact her friend’s absence had on the band’s dynamic.

The documentary, produced by Louis Theroux for BBC Two, delves into the era of girl bands in the 90s, featuring interviews with industry figures like Clara Amfo, Lucie Cave, MNEK, Pete Tong, Nicki Chapman, Scott Mills, and Tulisa. Theroux expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the cultural significance of girl bands in the music scene.

Jonathan Rothery, the head of BBC popular music TV, emphasized the importance of exploring the stories of influential girl groups in the upcoming series. “Girlbands Forever” aims to provide a nostalgic journey through the history of pop music while shedding light on the challenges faced by young women in the spotlight.
