Statistics Canada has reported that a considerable number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada during the initial days following its official opening. The highly anticipated bridge, which connects Windsor and Detroit, finally opened to vehicles on July 27 after facing several weeks of delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, approximately 18,900 Canadian residents made return trips from the U.S. through the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days of its operation. During the same timeframe, around 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada via the bridge.
In comparison, the other key border crossings in the area, namely the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents over the corresponding five-day period. Additionally, it was noted that 4,100 commercial transport trucks made their way into Canada using the Gordie Howe bridge during the last five days of July.
