Greggs enthusiasts may soon have the option to purchase sausage rolls and other baked goods from a vending machine. The bakery chain’s executives are exploring the implementation of automated and manual vending solutions. There is no specific timeline or locations disclosed for the potential launch, following the successful introduction of three smaller Greggs Bitesize shops.
In the latest financial report, Greggs noted a 17.9% decrease in statutory pre-tax profits to £167.4 million for the year ending December 27, compared to the previous year. The profit decline was attributed in part to challenging market conditions and unusually hot weather. The company expanded its store base by 121 locations in 2025, reaching a total of 2,739 stores. Greggs aims to open approximately 120 more stores this year, with aspirations to surpass 3,000 shops in the UK in the long run.
CEO Roisin Currie expressed optimism about an improvement in consumer spending due to decreasing inflationary pressures in the upcoming months. However, she acknowledged the continued tough economic environment for customers and anticipated another demanding year ahead. Greggs recently reassured customers that there are no plans for further price increases this year, following a recent adjustment in the cost of items such as the sausage roll and latte.
The company also shared that its first-ever pub, The Golden Flake Tavern, has attracted over 20,000 visitors, offering beer and popular dishes like Sausage Roll & Mash. The establishment in Newcastle’s Fenwick department store has sold more than 4,000 pints of Gosforth 1939 Lager and over 1,000 Pink Jammie Fizz cocktails.
