Beans are a staple in our home due to their convenience, nutritional value, and deliciousness, making them a perfect choice for a quick and budget-friendly meal. When Heinz introduced three new bean flavors exclusively on Ocado and HeinzToHome.co.uk, my initial reaction was skepticism about changing a classic.
However, upon trying the samples provided by Heinz, I learned that these new bean varieties were inspired by customer ideas from the Heinz Beanz of your Dreamz competition, which had over 26,000 entries. This made me reconsider my initial doubts.
According to the Express, the “The Beanz of your Dreamz” were not well-received, with some likening them to a nightmare rather than a dream.
Personally, I prefer my beans stewed gently on the hob with a touch of butter for added richness. This is how I approached tasting the new Heinz Beanz flavors: Pizza, Tagine, and Sweet & Sour.
Starting with the Pizza Beanz, they had a delightful herbal scent with a subtle Italian herb flavor that complemented dishes like sausage and mash. However, the novelty did not appeal to everyone, especially not to my five-year-old, who stuck to the classic beans.
Although I might give these new flavors another chance, they are not likely to become my top choice.
Moving on to the Tagine Beanz, they had a pleasant aroma of aromatic spices but lacked the boldness I expected. The Moroccan cumin flavor, while decent, could have been more pronounced for a more authentic taste.
It seemed like the spices were merely sprinkled on the beans rather than infused into the sauce, resulting in a somewhat generic flavor profile.
In essence, the Tagine Beanz were passable but lacked the depth of flavor that could have made them exceptional.
Lastly, the Sweet & Sour Beanz turned out to be a disastrous choice. The overly acidic smell and taste were unpleasant, resembling vomit, making them nearly inedible. The intense sourness was off-putting, causing a strong aversion.
It is hard to imagine how these flavors made it to production, as they failed to meet even the most basic taste expectations.</
