A mother has expressed living through a nightmare after setting up CCTV at her residence and capturing a pedophile abusing her daughter. Gary Lewin has been sentenced to 13 years in jail for manipulating and exploiting the teenage girl, with the victim’s mother stating that he robbed her daughter of her innocence. Leeds Crown Court heard that the 42-year-old bought the girl a PlayStation 5, an iPhone, and jewelry, provided her with alcohol and cannabis, and sexually assaulted her.
Lewin, who had previously admitted to various sex offenses including sexual activity with a child, appeared in court via video link from prison for sentencing. The prosecutor informed the court that the offenses began in 2024, shortly after Lewin’s release from prison. He showered the girl with gifts and sent numerous messages resembling a romantic relationship.
The relationship led the girl to stop attending school, and incidents escalated to physical intimacy. The girl eventually confided in a family member in February, leading to the involvement of the police. Despite attempts to protect the abuser, the truth eventually came out, and Lewin was found with the girl at various instances, even violating bail conditions.
The victim’s mother confronted Lewin during his court appearance, expressing the profound impact of his actions on her family. Lewin was sentenced to an extended term of 13 years, with additional restrictions and requirements including a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order. He will serve a minimum of 12 years in prison before being considered for release by the Parole Board.
