“Probe Launched into Mass Canada Goose Deaths in Manitoba”

Must read

Manitoba Conservation is conducting an investigation following the discovery of a group of deceased Canada geese in a ditch just north of Garson, Manitoba. Scott Peluk, a grader operator for the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, came across the carcasses while working near Road 33 E. in Garson. Peluk observed around 15 to 20 intact goose bodies without signs of being gutted for meat.

Peluk, who refrained from getting closer to the geese, noticed a few with apparent bloodstains. While the cause of death remains unconfirmed, Peluk suspects that the geese may have exceeded the legal hunting limit, prompting their disposal to avoid penalties. According to Manitoba’s 2026 hunting guide, licensed hunters are permitted to harvest up to eight Canada geese per day within designated game bird hunting zones, with a possession limit of 24.

Expressing his disapproval of wasteful practices, Peluk emphasized the importance of utilizing all resources, especially in a time when food costs are high. He captured a photo of the carcasses and shared it on social media in the hope that those responsible would be identified or deterred from such actions in the future.

The Manitoba Conservation department has since removed the carcasses, and they have confirmed their awareness of the incident while stating that an investigation is underway.
