Must read

Legendary music producer and co-founder of the Buggles, Trevor Horn, surprised fans with an unexpected performance alongside emerging artist Sophie Grey at O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. The duo delighted the audience by performing “Video Killed the Radio Star,” receiving praise on social media for their impromptu collaboration.

Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their excitement, with one user commenting, “Just saw Trevor Horn join Sting’s support act on stage at Kentish Town Forum to play ‘Video Killed the Radio Star.’ Great performance!”

Their rendition of the iconic hit blended Sophie’s Retro Electro style with the song’s classic new-wave essence, creating a memorable moment in her set. This collaboration followed Sophie’s release of a new version of the track, featuring futuristic synth production and a nostalgic touch.

Reflecting on the song, Sophie described “Video Killed the Radio Star” as timeless, highlighting its relevance in the context of evolving technology. Trained in piano performance at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Sophie draws inspiration from her mentor, GRAMMY-nominated songwriter Dr. Patrice Rushen.

The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star” made history as the first music video played on MTV in 1981, setting the tone for a new era of music television. The band, formed by Horn and Geoff Downes, achieved chart-topping success with the release of the song in 1979, following their collaboration in Tina Charles’ band.

Horn’s musical journey extended to producing Yes’ acclaimed albums, including the Grammy-winning “90125.” As he prepares for an upcoming tour, his surprise appearance at the recent event in London thrilled fans, marking a prelude to his scheduled performances in Newcastle, Manchester, and London.

Meanwhile, Sophie continues to captivate audiences on her tour, having previously shared the stage with renowned artists like Shaggy and Marianas Trench. The dynamic blend of talent and nostalgia in their performance promises an exciting future for both musicians and their dedicated fan base.
