Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Canada next week, as reported by sources to Radio-Canada. The visit, initially disclosed by the Globe and Mail, has been validated by two separate sources. These sources suggest that Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada may involve two destinations.
Zelenskyy’s previous visit to Canada occurred in December, during which he met with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the U.S. for discussions with President Donald Trump aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to comment on the anticipated visit.
Recent developments reveal that Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the readiness of several nations, including the U.S. and China, to assist in reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. However, Putin emphasized that the primary responsibility for resolving the conflict lies with the involved countries, Russia and Ukraine. He expressed gratitude towards those contributing to the peace efforts and acknowledged the possibility of a resolution.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking in Kyiv, expressed optimism about a renewed engagement in peace efforts across various global capitals. Following 4½ years of the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II, both sides rarely offer positive assessments of peace prospects. The last mediated talks between the two sides took place in February.
