RCMP have arrested a 52-year-old individual following an inquiry into allegations of unlawfully altered cattle brands. Branding serves as a method to establish ownership of livestock. Livestock Services of Saskatchewan was alerted on July 6 regarding potential modifications to cattle brands at a farm in the rural municipality of Martin, situated approximately 225 kilometers east of Regina, as stated in an RCMP news release on Wednesday. Owen Third, the livestock investigator for Saskatchewan RCMP, collaborated with officers from the Moosomin RCMP and Livestock Services of Saskatchewan to examine 197 cattle at the farm. RCMP disclosed that upon inspection, 99 cattle were found to bear an altered brand superimposed over the original one, while the rest displayed fraudulent branding with a new mark. The accused individual faces charges of altering a cattle brand and committing fraud exceeding $5,000. A court appearance for the defendant is scheduled for the upcoming month.
