A pregnant British woman, Bella Culley, who was detained in Georgia on drug trafficking charges, has returned to the UK after being released from prison. Bella, 19, landed in the UK this evening accompanied by her mother, who was seen with the same suitcase that had been confiscated by Georgian authorities containing £200,000 worth of cannabis.
Upon arrival, Bella and her mother embraced their loved ones before being escorted away by armed police to avoid the media. Bella flew back on an EasyJet flight from Tbilisi, Georgia, where she had spent almost six months in custody. Witnesses reported seeing Bella and her mother rushing into the airport to catch their flight just in time.
The young woman, a trainee nurse from Billingham, Teesside, was unexpectedly freed from prison earlier this week after a sudden change in her plea bargain terms. She expressed her surprise at being released, mentioning that she had not anticipated it at all. Bella’s first public comments upon release were about her appearance and the presence of cameras.
She was overheard saying she looked terrible and pointing out the cameras. Her initial words to her father were shared as he greeted her with “Hello Princess” over the phone. Bella joyfully informed him that she was no longer in jail, prompting a cheerful response from her father. Her mother, visibly emotional, expressed her happiness and indicated plans to leave the country promptly.
