Tourists in Europe face the risk of pickpocketing in popular destinations, with Italy standing out as a top spot for this type of theft. While Barcelona is known for pickpocketing, it’s not the only city afflicted by this issue. Pickpocketing is a widespread problem across Europe, with one specific European holiday spot earning the reputation as the worst for light-fingered theft.
Holidaymakers need to be extra cautious in crowded areas like airports, train stations, and tourist attractions where pickpockets operate. Quotezone.co.uk, a UK travel insurance firm, identified a location frequented by millions of British tourists annually as a hotspot for pickpocketing.
Italy has been singled out as a prime destination where tourists are most likely to fall victim to nimble-fingered thieves. Rome’s Trevi Fountain, a popular tourist spot, has been flagged for pickpocketing activities, with numerous reports on TripAdvisor mentioning the issue.
Similarly, France, with its iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris, is another hotspot for pickpocketing. Reviews on Google highlight over 800 instances of pickpocketing around the Eiffel Tower, cautioning visitors to be vigilant and secure their belongings.
Quotezone’s analysis ranks Italy as the top hotspot for pickpocketing in Europe, closely followed by France. The research considered mentions of pickpocketing incidents per million visitors in various European destinations, emphasizing the need for travelers to stay alert in crowded tourist areas.
Greg Wilson, the CEO of Quotezone.co.uk, emphasized the prevalence of theft in popular tourist spots and warned holidaymakers to be mindful of pickpockets targeting unsuspecting visitors. Italy, despite having the highest number of pickpocketing mentions, is not alone in facing this issue, as France and Spain also experience significant incidents of theft despite welcoming larger volumes of tourists.
