Serial Widow Convicted, Faces Life in Prison

Must read

Sarah Hartsfield and her spouse Joseph’s one-year marriage was showing signs of trouble. Hartsfield confided in friends about Joseph being a “nightmare” and considering ending the relationship. Likewise, Joseph expressed to family members his desire to terminate the marriage.

As Hartsfield’s fifth husband, it seemed she was on the path to another separation. Previous marital experiences had been tumultuous for former Army sergeant Hartsfield, with multiple divorces and tragic events. Her relationships had been short-lived, and her fourth husband, David Bragg, met a tragic end following a dispute in 2018.

Fast forward to May 9, 2018, when a 911 call from Hartsfield led to the death of David after a confrontation over child visitation rights. Despite the suspicious circumstances of arming herself, no legal action was taken, citing self-defense.

In subsequent events, Hartsfield remarried David George in 2019, but faced allegations from ex-husband Christopher of a plot to harm his new wife. Following their separation, Hartsfield met Joseph, an outdoor enthusiast, and they tied the knot in February 2022. However, concerns arose about Joseph’s demeanor within his family.

Tragedy struck on January 7, 2023, when Hartsfield reported Joseph, a type 1 diabetic, collapsing at their Texas home. Rushed to the hospital with dangerously low blood sugar, Joseph’s condition worsened inexplicably. Suspicions of insulin overdose surfaced, leading to his demise a week later, attributed to insulin toxicity.

Investigations uncovered unusual phone activities by Hartsfield during the health crisis, raising doubts about her claims. Subsequently, she was charged with first-degree murder, denying the accusations and maintaining her innocence.

During the trial, Hartsfield’s troubled history and past incidents came to light, including suspicions of foul play in previous relationships. Despite the defense’s argument of lack of evidence, Hartsfield was convicted of first-degree murder in October and sentenced to life imprisonment, eligible for parole in 30 years. The case involving the shooting of David Bragg has been reopened for further examination.
