Four Members of Parliament who were suspended by the Labour Party have been reinstated after discussions with the Chief Whip. Brian Leishman, Chris Hinchliff, Neil Duncan-Jordan, and Rachael Maskell, who were suspended in July for breaching party discipline, have now had the Labour whip restored following a review of their recent behavior.
These MPs, along with dozens of other Labour backbenchers, had voted against the government in July on disability benefit cuts, which were subsequently abandoned after facing significant opposition. In a statement, Rachael Maskell expressed gratitude for the restoration of the whip and reaffirmed her commitment to Labour values and serving her constituents in York.
Brian Leishman emphasized the importance of having the whip reinstated, citing the Labour Party as instrumental in achieving necessary societal changes. Neil Duncan-Jordan, with a longstanding history in the Labour and trade union movement, expressed his pleasure at having the whip restored to continue advocating for Labour values in Poole.
Chris Hinchliff welcomed the restoration and highlighted his dedication to serving the communities of North East Hertfordshire while aligning with Labour’s mission of prioritizing people and nature over profits.
