The ensemble for the television series “Heated Rivalry” is expanding with the addition of three new actors for its upcoming season. Created by Bell Media’s Crave streaming service, the Canadian-produced hockey drama gained widespread popularity during its initial six episodes, receiving acclaim after being acquired by HBO in the U.S. and internationally. The show notably propelled the careers of its main actors: Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud.
The fresh faces joining the cast were revealed, including renowned Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” series and “The Fifth Element.” Kevin Zegers, hailing from Woodstock, Ontario, recognized for his work in “Gossip Girl” and movies like “Transamerica,” was also announced. Additionally, Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television, recognized for projects like “Due South” and “Men With Brooms,” will be part of the upcoming season.
Author Rachel Reid, whose “Game Changers” books served as inspiration for the series, expressed excitement over the casting news. The show revolves around the clandestine relationship between two competitive ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, as their professional lives evolve.
Paul Gross will portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Kevin Zegers will bring Coach Wiebe to life, the head of the Ottawa Centaurs team that Rozanov will play for in the new season. Milla Jovovich is set to play Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist who aids Rozanov.
The new season will also welcome back Season 1 actors like Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh. The production has enlisted a diverse range of Canadian talents, including actors like Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire from “Schitt’s Creek,” and Priyanka from “Canada’s Drag Race.”
Emily Hampshire, in an interview, shared her close relationship with series creator and director Jacob Tierney and emphasized the significant impact of “Heated Rivalry.” While the show is ineligible for this year’s Primetime Emmys, it received recognition at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning multiple accolades. Season 2 filming has commenced, with the premiere scheduled for Spring 2027 on Crave.
