Thurairajah and his team were awarded the Ig Nobel Physics Prize for their innovative work on developing a urinal design that minimizes splashing. Their journey to create the perfect, splash-free urinal involved constructing and testing various prototypes, such as the Nautilus and Cornocopia designs.
During an interview, Thurairajah recounted the moment his supervisor informed him of their win, leading to a celebratory toast with wine in espresso cups. The team’s dedication to their research, despite its quirky nature, highlights the practical benefits it offers in improving public restroom facilities.
