Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed frustration over receiving unsolicited beauty advice in a recent Instagram post. Frederiksen, 48, returned from a trip to Ukraine where she experienced air raid sirens during the ongoing conflict, only to find a message from a plastic surgeon offering to address a perceived flaw on her nose.
In her post, Frederiksen revealed that she has received numerous messages critiquing her appearance over the years, including remarks about her teeth, hair, and a supposed “wart” on her nose, along with suggestions for Botox. She shared a screenshot of the plastic surgeon’s offer without disclosing the individual’s identity.
The Social Democrat leader, serving as Denmark’s second female prime minister and currently in her third term, emphasized her satisfaction with her body and rebuffed the plastic surgeon’s opinion, stating, “I’m happy with my body — I really don’t need a male plastic surgeon to have an opinion about it!”
Frederiksen has been a prominent figure in European politics, leading Denmark since mid-2019 and pledging to oppose U.S. President Donald Trump’s interests in Greenland while supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression. She reiterated on Instagram that she respects others’ appearances and encouraged meaningful discussions rather than focusing on physical attributes.
The prime minister acknowledged feeling offended by the unsolicited beauty advice and extended empathy to those facing similar pressures, emphasizing self-acceptance in one’s imperfections. She urged individuals to engage in more substantial conversations rather than critiquing her appearance.
Additionally, Frederiksen highlighted the significance of addressing societal taboos, sharing a video of Quebec Liberal MNA Jennifer Maccarone openly discussing menopause during a parliamentary committee meeting. The prime minister’s message resonated with many, advocating for open dialogue on personal experiences and breaking down stigmas surrounding topics like menopause.
Overall, Frederiksen’s stance against unwanted beauty suggestions reflects her commitment to promoting self-confidence and meaningful interactions, encouraging a shift towards discussions that truly matter.
