“Ditch the Dust: The Surprising Trick to Cleaner Skirting Boards”

Must read

Skirting boards in households are known to attract dust easily, despite regular cleaning efforts. However, there is a simple method to prolong the cleanliness of skirting boards.

With the onset of autumn and the use of radiators to warm up homes, the air tends to dry out, leading to the accumulation of static electricity on plastic and wooden surfaces.

This static charge on skirting boards acts as a magnet, drawing debris from the floor and causing it to adhere to the walls. Even with frequent cleaning, without addressing the static issue, skirting boards can become dusty within a day, giving the home a cluttered and neglected appearance.

An expert at Central Skirting has shared a practical solution – using tumble dryer sheets to clean skirting boards, as reported by the Express.

The expert stated: “A surprising yet effective way to clean skirting boards is by utilizing tumble dryer sheets! They can effortlessly remove dust and dirt, and their natural scent leaves a pleasant aroma in the home.”

Tumble dryer sheets are designed to counteract static charge on clothes, preventing them from sticking together in the dryer. This same anti-static property can help minimize static build-up on various surfaces, preventing dust and other particles from adhering to skirting boards.

Additionally, the sheets leave a light coating that acts as a protective barrier on skirting boards, keeping dust and grime at bay and simplifying future cleaning tasks.

To prevent static accumulation, it is recommended to clean skirting boards with dryer sheets monthly. However, if there are pets or carpeted floors in the household, cleaning every two weeks may be necessary due to increased debris attraction.

To start the cleaning process, remove any existing dust on the skirting boards. You can use a surface cleaner or create a homemade solution with white vinegar, which effectively breaks down sticky dust. Mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of warm water in a spray bottle and wipe the boards with a cloth.

Once the skirting boards are clean, gently run a used dryer sheet along them, avoiding excessive use. Using multiple sheets or leaving behind excessive residue can attract dust instead of repelling it.

After a quick wipe-down, the skirting boards should remain dust-free for up to a month, making it easier to maintain a clean home with minimal effort.
