A self-proclaimed “healer” brutally murdered and beheaded her acquaintance with the intention of seizing her assets. Jemma Mitchell, residing in Willesden, northwest London, viciously attacked 67-year-old widow Mee Kuen Chong at her residence in Wembley, causing fatal head injuries. Following the assault, she decapitated her victim and concealed the remains in a blue suitcase before embarking on a journey to Salcombe, Devon.
During the trip, the Volvo Mitchell was driving experienced a flat tire, prompting her to stop at a service station for assistance. Upon inspection, a mechanic detected a peculiar musty odor inside the vehicle. The headless body of Ms. Chong was subsequently discovered by vacationers near a wooded pathway close to Salcombe the following day.
The gruesome murder in 2022 sent shockwaves across the country. Mitchell devised a twisted plan to eliminate her victim after meeting her through a church group. Earlier, Mitchell and her mother had paid two builders £230,000 for renovations on their £4 million property. However, one of the builders deceived her, leaving the house without a roof and surrounded by scaffolding. Subsequently, Ms. Chong initially offered £200,000 for repairs before retracting the offer. Shortly after, Mitchell resorted to murder and forged a will to inherit the majority of Ms. Chong’s estate, valued at over £700,000.
In October 2022, Mitchell was sentenced to a minimum of 34 years in prison for the heinous crime. Judge Richard Marks KC described the murder as “chilling” and labeled Mitchell as “extremely devious.” He criticized her lack of remorse, stating, “You have shown absolutely no remorse and it appears you are in complete denial as to what you did. The enormity of your crime is profoundly shocking, even more so given your apparent religious devotion.”
Mitchell had pursued osteopathy studies in Australia, as indicated on her professional website, where she focused on neuroanatomy, genetics, and human cadaver dissection. These skills were utilized to carry out the gruesome act of decapitation, as acknowledged by the judge.
During the court proceedings, Mee’s sister Amy Chong delivered a poignant victim impact statement, connecting virtually with the victim’s nieces and nephew. She expressed her sorrow over the tragic loss, highlighting the distress caused by the horrifying ordeal and untimely demise of her sister, Deborah.
