Lloyds Bank customers are no longer able to deposit checks at Post Office locations due to a recent change. This adjustment also affects Halifax and Bank of Scotland, both part of the Lloyds Banking Group. However, customers can still deposit and withdraw cash at Post Office branches.
Reportedly, the banks have eliminated the option to deposit checks last month, despite announcing further bank branch closures. Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed the closure of an additional 95 bank branches between May 2021 and March 2027, including sites from Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland.
Over the past decade, Lloyds Banking Group has shut down 1,470 sites, as stated by consumer group Which? The cash access network Link has announced plans to establish 14 new locations with banking hubs to ensure continued access to cash nationwide.
Banking hubs are shared spaces where staff from different banks operate on various days, offering services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments. A spokesperson from Lloyds mentioned that most customers now prefer using the bank’s app to deposit checks easily by taking a photo on their phone.
While the exact number of staff affected by the closures was not disclosed, Lloyds assured that employees from closed branches would be offered roles at other sites or within the company. The ongoing closure process will result in 49 more sites shutting down by October, following the announcement of 136 closures around a year ago.
After the completion of the planned closures, Lloyds will have 610 branches remaining. A company spokeswoman emphasized the importance of offering customers multiple banking options, including digital apps, 24/7 messaging services, community bankers, PayPoint, and access to branches of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland.
