An individual from Annapolis Valley is charged with attempted murder and several weapons-related offenses following a shooting incident involving a woman known to him, who sustained severe injuries and was promptly taken to the hospital. Ryan Alexander Cole, aged 36, appeared briefly in Nova Scotia Provincial Court on Monday, with his case adjourned until August 25th while he remains in custody.
The episode unfolded on a Saturday morning in South Farmington, Annapolis Valley, triggering a police response to a reported shooting. The suspect eluded the scene in a damaged Mazda sedan, reportedly heading towards Halifax. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, deploying measures such as a spike belt on the highway, which the suspect managed to avoid. Subsequently, aerial tracking led to the suspect’s location after the Mazda collided with a tree along a hiking trail behind a Bedford shopping mall in the Halifax suburb.
Following the collision, the suspect fled on foot, prompting the RCMP to issue alerts regarding the situation. The RCMP highlighted the potential danger to public safety when dealing with a suspected armed individual. Law enforcement efforts included the involvement of police dog teams from the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police, along with emergency response teams from both agencies.
While confirming a connection between Cole and the victim, RCMP Cpl. Mandy Edwards refrained from disclosing the exact nature of their relationship. Cole’s criminal history, dating back to 2008, includes various charges such as breaching conditions from prior releases, disarming a police officer, resisting an officer, and unauthorized sharing of intimate images.
