“Rapist caught on CCTV prowling Glasgow streets”

Must read

CCTV footage has captured the disturbing moment when a dangerous rapist prowled the empty streets of a city center before carrying out a horrifying assault on a doctor in Glasgow.

Mihai-Nicolae Patran has been sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow for the rape of a 27-year-old doctor that occurred on November 26, 2023. The video footage shows Patran emerging from an alleyway and attacking the doctor as she walked along Mitchell Street in Glasgow.

During the trial, it was revealed that the perpetrator had targeted three women over a month. The Romanian national was first caught on CCTV exposing himself inappropriately in front of a 19-year-old woman on a crowded train carriage.

The young woman alerted the conductor, leading to the police being notified. Prosecutors presented CCTV footage showing the 34-year-old traveling on a train between Perth and Stirling on October 22, 2023.

Subsequently, he assaulted the 27-year-old doctor in a secluded passageway in Glasgow city center, leading to his arrest and appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Prosecutors relied on various evidence, including CCTV footage, cell phone recordings, DNA, and witness statements, to build a solid case against the assailant, who was not acquainted with any of his victims. He was convicted of all three charges on October 14.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Patran received a 12-year extended sentence with nine years to be served in prison. He has been placed indefinitely on the sex offenders register, according to GlasgowLive.

Faye Cook, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, emphasized Patran’s danger to women and his predatory behavior in high-risk situations. She commended the victims for their courage in coming forward and expressed hope that the conviction would provide some solace and accountability.

Stranger offenses like these are rare but intolerable, and Scottish prosecutors remain committed to supporting victims and seeking justice.
