Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and its vicinity continued for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, causing disruptions with constant air raid sirens. The assaults early that day resulted in injuries to four individuals and damages to various structures in the Kyiv region, according to regional Gov. Tymur Tkachenko’s statement on Telegram.
In recent days, Kyiv and nearby areas have been under siege by swarms of drones, many equipped with jet engines, leading to casualties, property destruction, and economic losses. A significant incident involved a Russian drone strike on an ammunition depot on Friday, triggering explosions that claimed the lives of 38 people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy remarked on Sunday that the ongoing drone attacks were part of a strategy to wear down the morale of Ukrainians. He disclosed that Russia had launched close to 1,500 drones at Ukraine in just four days, with over half of them being jet-powered.
In another development, a Russian strike caused a fire at a terminal operated by courier service Nova Poshta in the Odesa region, as reported by Gov. Oleh Kiper on Monday. Additionally, in the city of Kryvyi Rih, an industrial establishment was targeted by a jet-powered drone attack, resulting in injuries to two individuals, as confirmed by a local official.
Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated their attacks on economic targets in recent weeks, focusing on major e-commerce entities and retailers. Russia has specifically targeted warehouses of Ukraine’s leading supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods stores. In retaliation, Ukraine also launched a drone attack on a logistics hub in Russia’s Yekaterinburg, according to the local governor’s statement.
The intensified air attacks by Russia, exploiting Ukraine’s lack of interceptors capable of countering ballistic missiles, have caused disruptions in Kyiv. The increased use of daytime drone assaults has disrupted daily life for Kyiv residents, leading to disruptions in public transportation services and daily routines.
Amid the chaos, individuals like 38-year-old nurse and psychologist Yulianna Oliynyk have faced challenges, with air raid alerts leaving them stranded on metro platforms, affecting their daily activities and routines. Oliynyk expressed her concerns about the disruptions caused by the alerts, highlighting the uncertainty and difficulties faced by families trying to navigate through the ongoing crisis.
The situation in Kyiv remains tense as the drone attacks persist, causing widespread disruptions and uncertainty for the residents as they strive to cope with the ongoing crisis.
