“Teen Sentenced for Grooming, Self-Harm Coercion”

Must read

An 18-year-old individual named Kai Edmundson has been sentenced to prison for grooming a 14-year-old schoolgirl online and instructing her to engrave his name on her neck. Despite living in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, Edmundson manipulated the victim, who resided in Derbyshire, through various social media platforms like Discord, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

During their four-month communication period starting in September of the previous year, Edmundson, who openly identified himself as a paedophile, coerced the victim into sending indecent images of herself and engaging in self-harm. He even encouraged her to carve his name into her skin and promote her eating disorder.

The illicit conversations came to light when Derbyshire Police intervened after receiving a report of inappropriate contact with the girl. Subsequently, officers from Lancashire Police East’s Internet Child Exploitation Team arrested Edmundson on April 1, seizing his phone that contained indecent images of children.

Following an investigation and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Edmundson faced charges including engaging in sexual communication with a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activities, encouraging self-harm, and possessing indecent images of children. He pleaded guilty to all charges in court and was sentenced to five years and three months in custody, along with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and mandatory registration on the Sex Offenders Register.

DS Nicholas Barker, part of the East Internet Child Exploitation Team, described Edmundson as a dangerous individual with disturbing behaviors and views, emphasizing the severity of the case and the need to protect children from online predators like him. Barker commended the victim for her bravery throughout the legal process and urged vigilance among parents and children regarding potential risks online.
