The cost of a TV licence is increasing once more, but if you no longer require one, you may be eligible for a refund.
Currently priced at £174.50 annually, the TV licence fee will go up to £180 starting in April. A TV licence is necessary for watching or recording live TV or accessing any content, whether live or catch-up, on BBC iPlayer.
If you solely watch catch-up shows on streaming platforms other than BBC iPlayer, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, then a TV licence is not required.
However, if you stream live shows through these services, a TV licence is necessary. Failure to comply with the TV licence requirement could lead to a fine of up to £1,000.
In case you no longer need your TV licence before it expires, you might be entitled to a refund if there is at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, refunds are available for those eligible for over 75 or blind concessions.
Remember, breaching TV licence regulations could result in a fine of up to £1,000.
