Vernon Kay has publicly apologized following a wave of feedback from viewers of The One Show expressing disappointment over his recent appearance. Addressing a query from one of his BBC Radio 2 listeners during today’s show, Vernon, who hosted The One Show on Monday, revealed that many people had reached out to share their thoughts.
In an early segment of his program, Vernon was questioned about his decision not to wear his baggy jeans on the BBC show. This likely stems from his admission on Monday morning’s Radio 2 broadcast that he had faced criticism for a fashion choice he described as “horrendous.”
Despite the backlash, Vernon remained resolute about wearing the contentious trousers again on The One Show. He acquired the jeans during a shopping trip in Central London with his youngest daughter, Amber, who had suggested the baggy style.
However, when he sported the jeans at the Strictly Come Dancing studios to support his wife, Tess Daly, he was met with widespread amusement.
Vernon explained that many viewers had contacted The One Show expressing their disappointment at his choice of attire, emphasizing that jeans were not suitable for the program. He clarified that he wore corduroy trousers instead, stating that The One Show had a different tone compared to his previous TV appearances.
Responding to a listener named Rach who expressed missing the baggy trousers, Vernon acknowledged the feedback and apologized for the situation.
Reflecting on the fashion mishap, Vernon recalled being mocked for his jeans at the Strictly Come Dancing event. Despite his daughter’s approval of the attire, others deemed it “horrendous,” leaving Vernon feeling let down. He shared Tess Daly’s reaction upon her return home, where she advised him to discard the jeans, but he humorously resisted, claiming he liked them.
Furthermore, Vernon joked about the windy conditions during the incident, suggesting that wearing the jeans might have led him to soar away like a kite and land in the south of France.
