Katherine Ryan recently shared a harrowing incident involving her husband confronting a burglar armed with a knife in their home. The Canadian comedian recounted the traumatic experience during a discussion with her husband, Bobby Kootstra, on their podcast What’s My Age Again?. The alarming event occurred in 2019.
In a snippet from the podcast episode shared on Instagram, Katherine described the ordeal as deeply distressing. She acknowledged the impact on her husband, stating that he struggled to sleep for a week following the incident.
According to Bobby, the incident unfolded unexpectedly while they were at home. He recounted encountering the masked intruder while getting a fresh shirt from their bedroom after spilling wine on himself. Confronting the burglar holding Katherine’s laptop, Bobby chased him out of the house through a window.
A confrontation ensued outside the house, where the burglar brandished a knife, threatening Bobby’s life. Fortunately, a passing police car prompted the burglar to flee, with the officer giving chase.
The break-in coincided with Katherine and Bobby formalizing their relationship through a civil partnership. The couple, who first met in their teenage years in Canada, reconnected after two decades apart when Katherine returned to her hometown of Sarnia, Ontario, for a television project.
Earlier this year, Katherine announced her pregnancy with Bobby, adding to their existing family with two children born in 2021 and 2022. The birth of their third child was announced on October 18, 2025. Katherine also has an older child born in 2008. The family currently resides together in London.
