Walkers has announced the discontinuation of Tomato Snaps, a beloved type of crisps that have been a favorite since the 1970s. This decision has left crisp enthusiasts saddened by the impending absence of the snack from store shelves.
Manufactured at the Newark Road facility in Lincolnshire, the news of Tomato Snaps’ departure has sparked outrage among fans. Walkers, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, stated that the discontinuation is part of their strategy to focus on their top-selling products.
The company confirmed that the remaining stock of Tomato Snaps will be sold through various channels in the upcoming weeks. These curved, rectangular extruded snacks are produced from potato starch and potato granules. PepsiCo expressed gratitude to loyal fans of Snaps while acknowledging the sentimental value the product holds in their history.
The Newark Road facility, originally known as the Smith’s Potato Crisp factory since its establishment in 1937, now predominantly produces Quavers, generating 500 million packs annually.
In 2024, PepsiCo sold two million kilos of Smiths crisps, including popular variants like Frazzles, Chipsticks, and Scampi Fries, alongside Tomato Snaps. Fans, such as Alex Ward, Emma Seddon, Presley Cook, and Cheryl Smith, shared their disappointment and fond memories of the crisp that will soon be discontinued.
The decision to stop production of Tomato Snaps has evoked strong reactions from long-time fans, with many expressing their dismay over the beloved snack’s impending disappearance from the market.
