Tesco to Expand with 70+ New Express Stores

Tesco is preparing to introduce over 70 new Express stores throughout the UK by acquiring former Amazon Fresh locations.

The transition will involve rebranding and converting numerous Amazon Fresh sites into Tesco Express establishments by March of next year. Among the Amazon Fresh sites slated for reopening are those in Kensington High Street, Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East, and Wembley, all situated in London and set to resume operations before summer. Last September, Amazon closed its remaining 19 Fresh stores.

According to Nick Johnson, Tesco Group Property Director, the expansion aims to support employment opportunities and local economies across the UK. The company is enthusiastic about the upcoming year and eager to extend its reach to more customers in various communities, providing high-quality products, great value, and exceptional customer service.

In other news, Worcestershire County Council is offering up to £500 in energy bill support to struggling households residing in Malvern, Worcester, Wychavon, Bromsgrove, Redditch, or Wyre Forest District. Eligibility requires a gross household income of £24,570 or less annually for singles without children, or £31,000 for other households, excluding benefits. Additionally, households must have no savings, meet specific vulnerability criteria, and reside in Worcestershire.

Childcare providers have been cautioned against charging additional fees to parents for utilizing free childcare hours. Children aged nine months to four years can qualify for up to 30 free hours per week during term-time, with strict guidelines prohibiting hidden or mandatory charges. Optional extras like meals, snacks, nappies, or trips may be charged separately but must be clearly priced and non-compulsory.

In other business news, InPost, a parcel locker group, has agreed to a £6.8 billion acquisition by a consortium led by FedEx and Advent. The deal will maintain InPost’s brand as an independent entity, headquartered in Poland, with founder Rafat Brzoska continuing as CEO. The acquisition is expected to finalize in the second half of 2026, facilitating InPost’s expansion in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Benelux, and the UK, including an increase in locker points.

Superdrug is planning to open 30 new stores this year, generating around 600 jobs across various locations in England, Scotland, and Wales. These new stores will feature Superdrug Beauty Studios offering services like ear piercing, manicures, and eyebrow threading.

Furthermore, NatWest Group has reached an agreement to acquire wealth management firm Evelyn Partners for £2.7 billion, enhancing its fee income and expanding its private banking and wealth management business. The merger is expected to provide financial planning, savings, and investment services to a wider range of customers, promoting growth and investment opportunities.

Lastly, a survey conducted by Which? revealed that many individuals prioritize activities like going to the dentist or cleaning the bathroom over spending an hour planning for retirement. The study highlighted the need for improved retirement planning awareness and support to help individuals better manage their pension savings.
